Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, Mortgage Specialist
Sean has more than 15 years experience as a manager of mortgage loan portfolios and mortgage-backed securities portfolios for institutional investors at Western Asset. He was previously employed at PIMCO and Wilshire Associates.
As a portfolio manger he was responsible for up to $80bb in agency mortgage-backed securities for central bank, treasury, corporate, ERISA, private commingled and public mutual funds, consistently outperforming benchmarks.
He presented performance reviews, market outlook reports and strategy discussions with numerous clients and was involved with consultant and prospect outreach and new business pitches.
Concurrent to his portfolio manager duties at Western Asset, he was Deputy CIO at Western Asset Mortgage Capital, a mortgage REIT (NYSE: WMC).
He was responsible hedging and financing numerous levered mortgage funds, including the REIT, developing and implementing creative and cost effective strategies to achieve client and firm goals.
He was a key member of the management team for the REIT, involved in strategy, asset allocation, hedging and financing operations. He regularly presented firm views on earnings calls and presentations.
Also, during this time, he was the firm’s head of residential mortgage loans and purchased more than $5BB of Non-QM whole loans and led 8 securitizations of these loans (ARRW shelf).
Pricing, servicing and contract negotiations, counterparty due diligence, investor pitching and presentations, surveillance and loan workouts were all part of this role. He worked with Western’s internal IT team to create a custom database and reporting system for loan aggregation, securitization and surveillance. He often appeared on panels of experts at industry conferences such as IMN’s Non-QM and ABS East and West.
